Importing CSV Files

Introduction

The CSV Import function allows users to bring external data into their Planner projects for accurate radio planning and analysis. You can import five types of elements:

  • Sites

  • Cells

  • UE (User Equipment)

  • Target Client Locations

  • Measurement Data (Drive Tests)

Starting from Planner 3.8 (planned Q1 2026), an Import Wizard will simplify this process by guiding users step-by-step, validating data, and mapping parameters automatically.


General Questions

Q: What types of data can I import into Siradel Planner?

You can import:

  • Non-project-related data: Sites, Target Client Locations.

  • Project-related data: Cells and UE (these depend on your project configuration), and Measurement Data (because Best Server info must match network elements in the project).


Q: Which file format is supported?

All imports use CSV files with a specific column structure.

  • Download from Planner to ensure correct formatting and default values.


Q: Are all parameters mandatory?

No.

  • Mandatory parameters must be filled in (e.g., Site Name, Latitude, Longitude for Sites).

  • Optional parameters can be left empty. If empty, Planner applies default values.

  • Sample files include these defaults—you can keep or modify them.


  • Sites, Target Client Locations

  • Do not depend on project configuration.

  • You can import them anytime.

  • Cells, UE: Depend on project-defined objects and enums (e.g., Technology, Radio Equipment, Carrier, Scenario).

  • Measurement data: the value of Best Server parameter must match network elements (Cell name).

  • These values must exist in the project before import. If not, the import will fail.


How to Import Each Element

Sites

  1. Download the sample CSV file of Sites.

  2. Fill in mandatory columns: Name, X (m)/Long (°), Y (m)/Lat (°). Please note that the DMS format is not supported for CSV export and import.

  3. If necessary, fill or modify in optional columns.

  4. In Scene Manager, right-click Sites node → Import.


Target Client Locations

  1. Download the sample CSV file of Target Client Locations.

  2. Fill in mandatory columns: client location data (Name, X, Y).

  3. An optional Height column can be added. If present, it will be used in the Access Auto Assignment simulation to define the height of each point. If the Height column does not exist in the CSV file, then the height defined in the selected UE template will be applied to all target client location points.

  1. If necessary, you may add addtional informational columns. These extra columns are for reference only and will not impact the simulation results.

  2. Save the file using the “CSV (Comma delimited)” format instead of “CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited)”.

  3. In Scene Manager, right-click Target Client LocationsImport Points.


Measurement Data (Drive Tests)

  1. Download the sample CSV file of Drive Tests.

  2. Prepare measurement data (X, Y, Measurement, Best server).

  3. In Scene Manager:

  4. Right-click Drive Tests – Custom/5G/LTESet as Active Drive Tests for the correct technology.

  5. Then right-click again → Import.


Cells

  1. Configure your project first (define Technologies, Radio Equipment, etc.).

  2. Download the sample CSV file of Cells.

  3. Fill in mandatory columns: Name, Technology, Equipment, Height (m), Azimuth, etc. Please note that Height value must be in meters.

  4. Ensure project-related values match exactly.

  5. If necessary, fill or modify in optional columns.

  6. Import via Scene Manager - Access- Custom/5G/LTE - Cells and select Import.


UE (User Equipment)

  1. Configure your project first (define Technologies, Radio Equipment, etc.).

  2. Download the sample CSV file of UEs.

  3. Fill in mandatory columns: Name, Technology, Equipment, Height, etc.

  4. Ensure project-related values match exactly.

  5. If necessary, fill or modify in optional columns.

  6. Import via Scene Manager - Access- Custom/5G/LTE - UEs and select Import.


Troubleshooting

Q: Why does my import fail?

  • Check that mandatory columns are filled.

  • Ensure CSV structure matches the sample file.

  • For Cells and UE, verify that project-related values exist in the project.

Q: What happens if optional parameters are empty?

  • Default values are applied automatically.

Q: Can I delete optional columns?

  • No. Keep the structure intact. Leave cells empty or keep defaults.


Best Practices

  • Always start from sample CSV files.

  • Validate your data before importing.

  • Configure your project first for Cells and UE import.

  • Use consistent coordinate systems.


Future Feature: Import Wizard (Planner 3.8, S1 2026)

The Import Wizard will:

  • Provide a step-by-step interface.

  • Detect file formats and required fields automatically.

  • Validate data and suggest corrections.

  • Offer preview and mapping assistance.for
